Irish dances for the public in the Dallas/Fort Worth area are increasing in popularity.  The big event of the year is the North Texas Irish Festival céilí which takes place the first weekend of March. A happy crowd of people with and without Irish or Scottish ancestry fill a large stage, dancing to music by a live band, usually the Lone Star Ceili Band.  Until recently this was the primary large-scale Irish céilí open to the public in the year. Beginning in the fall of 2005, the SCMA began sponsoring monthly dances with live music. While still growing, these events have been been well received and are helping new dancers to develop a craving for a good ol' céilí.

In other parts of the United States as well as Ireland, England, and many more countries, people find even more opportunities to enjoy Irish dancing in a relaxed environment with céilithe and set dances.  The Irish Dance list offers a way for people in the Metroplex to share news about upcoming dances and to help build the popularity of this lively pastime.  If you enjoy céilí and set dancing as well as step and figures for the pure pleasure of it, here is your chance to stay informed and to spread the word about dancing fun!

You can join the Irish Dance list by following the directions found through this link. You will receive e-mail about Irish dancing opportunities. This is strictly a grass-roots effort to pass the word about Irish dancing events, céilís, and sessions that welcome spontaneous dancing. This list will never be shared, sold, or used to solicit money or promote anything besides friends meeting for the joy of dance!
