Irish Dancers of North Texas,
Colin Dunne's visit has been scheduled. Talk and workshops will be held in the
Dallas and mid-cities area.
Informal Talk: Tipperary Inn, from 7:30-8:30 pm (followed by
free céilí with music by Beyond the Pale!)
D.J.'s Dance, Southlake, 817-490-0665
Advanced Workshop I 1-4pm Friday, 6 Aug
Intermediate Workshop I 6-9pm Friday, 6 Aug (same)
Artistic Grace, Bedford, 817-358-9300
Advanced Workshop II 10-1 Saturday, 7 Aug
Intermediate Workshop II 3-6 Saturday, 7 Aug (same)
Directions to each location are available at the end.
In the talk, Colin will discuss himself, his background, his experience, and
what to expect from the workshops. He will also take questions.
The Intermediate Workshop is for those with up to 2 years Irish dancing
experience, and the Advanced Workshop is for those with over 2 years Irish
dancing experience. Minimum age admitted is 8 years. These are general
guidelines, and your teacher would know best if any exceptions should be made.
On Friday Colin will instruct light dancing for the first 2-21/2 hours,
concentrating on essential technique. He will then instruct heavy dancing for
the last 30 minutes or so, to assess what he's going to do on the Saturday. On
both days, Colin will focus on rhythm and relationship of the dance to music.
On Saturday he will focus primarily on heavy dancing, dividing up the class into
groups if need be, and choosing material based on the assessment period from the
previous day.
If you have ghillies and/or heavy shoes, then great. But Colin says you can work
in whatever kind of dance shoes you have. I want to stress (as did he) that he's
more interested in teaching people that are 'fired up' about the dancing, rather
than just excellent step dancers (although excellent step dancers are most
welcome, of course!)
The cost for the event will be:
1) $130 per person (includes the talk and two 3-hour workshops) - PAID BEFORE 10
JULY $140 for the same PAID AFTER 10 JULY
2) $230 to attend the talk and both the Intermediate and Advanced workshops -
PAID BEFORE 10 JULY $250 for the same PAID AFTER 10 JULY
3) Observers pay the same rate as participants. Limit of FIVE observers per
class.
4) $10 just to attend the talk (taken at the door - first come first serve)
5) A Teacher who has 8 or more students attending each level of the workshop
comes for free, but must participate in class. Teachers can, of course pay to
attend either or both workshops.
REGISTRATION will be taken on a first come-first serve basis. Maximum number of
students will be 30 per workshop (60 total). To secure your place in the
workshop(s), send the attached REGISTRATION FORM and a CHECK, made payable to

Following are pictures and video from the céilí that followed Colin Dunne's talk on Thursday night. The music was played by Beyond the Pale and called by Catherine Sherer. It was great fun!
Colin Dunne discusses dance with the parent of a dancer.
Betsy sings a song while the dancers (and Christy) rest.
It's time for the Ballivorney Reel Set! Fortunately for us Catherine let us rest between figures
(or "figgers" as some Whiskey-imbibing people were inclined to say) although some of us were keen
to try it all the way through. The floor might have been littered with dead dancers afterword though :-)
Click on the right image to seen a video of the dancers whirling.
The Fairy Reel, The last dance of the night for the keepers of the camera. We had a good-sized line of
dancers (18 people I believe).
